3 Simple Steps Towards Work-life Balance

Work-life balance is a concept including proper prioritising between work (career and ambition) and “lifestyle” (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation).

Last summer, my partner and I went to visit my sister, her husband and small children in Bristol. They all looked very well, relaxed and happy. They had found a work-life balance; a way to balance work and being outdoors over the summer and were all enjoying life. I had been working and studying throughout the summer and felt drained and exhausted.

We reflected on the small changes we could make in the following year to achieve a better balance and avoid getting to a place where we felt burnt out. We took a week out in early January and planned our holidays for the year. Having completed my coaching qualification, I reduced my hours in my role working for a charity to be able to really dedicate some quality time to growing and developing my coaching business.

Those small steps have made a huge difference and I now feel I have a better work-life balance. I’m giving my charity work and coaching the time and energy they deserve and have more quality time to spend with my partner and friends at the weekends.
